Ohio State recruiting: 5-star receiver Julian Fleming commits to Buckeyes

Ohio State has added another five-star recruit as the recruiting hasn’t dropped off with the transition from Urban Meyer to Ryan Day.
Ohio State picked up the commitment of the nation’s No. 1 receiver, Julian Fleming, on Friday morning. The Buckeyes now own the nation’s No. 9 class and top class in the Big Ten, according to the 247Sports team rankings.
Fleming (Catawissa, PA. Southern Columbia) picked Ohio State over offers from Clemson, Penn State and Alabama, among others.

The 6-2, 199-pound receiver is the nation’s No. 6 overall recruit and should be the type of elite talent that makes an immediate impact when he steps foot on campus. Receiver has been a position of emphasis after an offseason that saw Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin and Johnnie Dixon depart for the NFL. By the time arrives, Fleming will be asked to lead the receiver group along with 2019 five-star receiver, Garrett Wilson, and Chris Olave.
Picking Ohio State over his list of suitors came down to the relationship he built with the players and coaching staff, in particular, wide receivers coach, Brian Hartline.
“Just the at home feelings really and the bond between the players was one of a kind,” Fleming told 247Sports after committing to the Buckeyes.
There may have been some doubts or concerns about the level of recruits Ohio State would be able to attract with Urban Meyer retiring at the end of last season, but those concerns should be put to bed. They were pretty silly, to begin with. Ohio State doesn’t have to worry about attracting elite recruits as the premier program in the Big Ten and one of the three-four top programs in the country with Alabama and Clemson.
Expect Day and his coaching staff to continue adding elite recruits like Fleming between now and National Signing Day in late December. And expect Ohio State to be among the top five classes when all the letters of intent are in.
