3. De’Andre Hunter, SF, Virginia

The Step Back Big Board Ranking: 7

Hunter is a perfectly safe pick for the Bulls at 7. He doesn’t offer a ton of upside, but he’ll do his job as a 3-and-D plus wing that teams can never have too many of. Any concerns about Hunter having positional overlap with Otto Porter is likely overblown, as you can easily play both together regularly.

Hunter’s versatility at the 3 and 4 is going to be the big selling point for his fit in Chicago. He’s probably going to be able to split equal time between both spots, allowing him to spend time at the three on bench units and slide into the 4-spot next to Markkanen or Carter. He can provide multiple positives from the wing spot that the Bulls need, from catch-and-shoot proficiency, to ancillary passing, to the defensive versatility that will help keep their team defense moving. He doesn’t have much upside, especially on this roster, where he will likely be very limited in his creation opportunities given the strengths of his potential teammates. But the Bulls just need another proficient wing behind Porter, and that is what Hunter is going to provide.
