The Step Back Big Board Ranking: 4

White is a much better fit for what the Bulls need at the point guard spot than Garland is. He plays more like a natural point guard type and compliments the skill sets of their current core members to a much higher degree. He’s a popular mock draft selection for the Bulls and would be a pretty good fit for what the roster needs.

White might not succeed as a scoring point guard because of his lack of elite finishing, but he’s going to be a capable pull-up shooter, and he has some upside as a shooter off the catch. White’s real value is going to come as a passer, where he showed flashes of brilliance as he learned the position on the fly this year. He seems like he has the makings of being a capable passer that can set the table off pick-and-pops and in transition for the Bulls’ other starters. He also should be a pretty capable defender, able to switch two positions and stick with wings off screens, which was something the Bulls really struggled with last season.

White probably isn’t good enough to bet on as a primary scorer at the NBA level. He has enough skills to play though, and when put on the Bulls, suddenly he’s probably the fourth option for them on offense, a much more palatable expectation level than if he was joining, say, the Phoenix Suns. White is a good match for the Bulls’ roster, and he’s likely to end up there, so that’s a pretty good outcome.
