Luis Suarez is one of the most recognizable players in the world. The FC Barcelona striker may be on David Beckham’s radar as Inter Miami CF’s “Designated Player.”

Owner David Beckham has vowed to bring the world’s biggest stars to Miami CF as Major League Soccer continues to do its best to raise the profile of the league. Carlos Vela, Wayne Rooney, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have dazzled with wonder goals in the MLS. Now it looks like Beckham has his eyes set on an even bigger individual.

According to Catalunya Radio’s Xavi Campos, via Marca, there are rumblings Luis Suarez is one of the players Beckham is targeting for Inter Miami.

Suarez is coming off another 20-goal season in La Liga for La Blaugrana, but at 32 years old, it’s possible Barcelona start looking for his replacement. Already linked to Alexander Lacazette this transfer window, that process could be beginning.

Although Suarez would be a “pipe dream” signing for Beckham and the MLS, Miami could be an appealing destination for him to finish his career. He may have also seen how global superstars Rooney and Zlatan have fared in the MLS, and their brands have remained strong with droves of supporters in America awed by their skills on the pitch.

Suarez is a creative genius and scorer on the level of Zlatan, and he’s one of the most intelligent attacking players off the ball in the modern game. But because of these traits, Suarez remains an asset at Barcelona, even if he’s clearly lost a step and could be headed for a full-blown decline in a matter of seasons.

Beckham has his eyes on the prize for Inter Miami, and surely has candidates in mind other than Suarez, whose interest in the MLS remains unclear. But since Inter Miami don’t begin playing until 2020, that gives Beckham and the club time to coax Suarez into leaving Barcelona, as an exit after 2019-2020 could make more sense.

Keep an eye on this rumor, as Suarez could be quite the addition to the MLS, even at the age of 33 when the 2020 season begins. It wouldn’t be surprising if Beckham, regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in history, is able to convince a few more top stars in Europe to join Miami by this time next year.
