Jordan Burch is the nation’s new No. 1 college football recruit, but where will the blue-chip recruit play his college football?

There is a new No. 1 college football recruit and his name is Jordan Burch. The 6-5, 250-pound defensive end from Columbia, SC moved to the top of the 247Sports Composite Rankings after the latest round of updates in the industry.

Burch (Hammond High School) overtakes Zachary Evans (North Shore (Houston, TX) and the battle to win his recruiting war could go down to the state schools, South Carolina and Clemson, winners of two of the last three national championships.

Clemson already owns the nation’s top recruiting class, headlined by No. 2 overall recruit Bryan Bresee and No. 1 quarterback, D.J. Uiagalelei, among others. The prospect of Clemson adding Burch to that class could set up Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney with one of the best, if not the best, recruiting class of all-time.

But there’s a long road to go before Burch makes his decision on where he’ll play in college. He hasn’t set a date to make his commitment yet so this could go up to the National Signing Day period in December or in February if Burch needs the time.

While Clemson is rolling on the recruiting trail, it’s not a foregone conclusion that Burch follows Bresee and Uiagalelei to Death Valley. South Carolina has hosted Burch three times this spring. Their history and coach Will Muschamp’s history of developing defensive linemen and getting them drafted high in the NFL Draft weigh favorably for them.

Don’t dismiss Georgia as a suitor for Burch either.

Burch has a basketball background that has helped him look graceful and light on his feet as he sets the edge and dip and run with the fluidity of a player much smaller. He has the potential to bulk up to the 275-pound range and be a star at the college level and projects as a first round pick in the NFL.

He had 62 tackles and 10 sacks last year as a junior and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him approach 20 sacks this year lining up all over the field, including on offense.
