Why isn’t Agents of SHIELD new tonight, June 7? Find out what’s happening with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 6 on ABC this week.

Why isn’t Agents of SHIELD new tonight, June 7? Fans of the ABC series are probably checking TV listings backwards and forwards trying to figure out what’s going on with the Marvel show, since it’s gone missing like half the Avengers in Infinity War.

There’s a much less sinister explanation for this disappearance, though: Turns out that SHIELD is powerless against sports. ABC has pulled the show off its primetime schedule for the week since this is NBA Finals week, and the Alphabet is the network that’s airing the Finals.

As part of that playoff basketball programming, every year ABC does a basketball-themed talk show special with Jimmy Kimmel called “Game Night.” This Friday, that special is what’s taking over the time slot which normally belongs to Melinda May, (not) Phil Coulson and friends.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that since the NBA Finals end this week, the Marvel TV universe will be back to normal shortly. Agents of SHIELD season 6 resumes on June 14 with an episode directed by Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, Blindspot).

Guest stars include Sherri Saum (The Fosters), while Barry Shabaka Henley returns as Dr. Marcus Benson. Between the cast and the director, this will be an episode worth waiting for!

So now you know the answer to “Why isn’t Agents of SHIELD new tonight?” even if it’s not going to make TV fans happy. It turns out that these agents can save the universe, but they’re powerless against Jimmy Kimmel, the Toronto Raptors, and the Golden State Warriors.
