NBA Free Agency 2019: When does free agency start?
2019 NBA free agency promises to be a wild ride with the likes of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard and many more available, but when does it begin?
It has been said that the NBA is a year-round sport and NBA free agency plays a large part in that. The offseason news cycle, in many cases, can be just as exciting as the playoffs (and certainly more than the dog days of the regular season). It’s all drama all the time in the offseason, but 2019 NBA free agency could bring even more of that than fans are accustomed to.
Depending on how player options play out for some players, some of the league’s best players, including Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and many others, could be available to the highest bidder — or the best fit. These aren’t just players that could help a team. Rather, these are the types of stars that could legitimately change the entire direction of a franchise.
The madness of 2019 NBA free agency will actually get underway a bit earlier than in previous years, though. Teams and players can begin meeting and negotiating contracts on June 30 at 6 p.m. ET, six hours earlier than the previous beginning on July 1 at 12:01 a.m. ET.
It’s important to note, however, that players can not sign anything at that time as it is the league-wide moratorium. All that can take place during said time is negotiating and agreements. No pens are put to paper and nothing is official for several days. Contracts can officially be signed starting on July 6 at noon ET.
The entire landscape of the league could well change in 2019 NBA free agency depending on where players sign. No matter how the cards are dealt, though, fans should be dialed into every moment starting on June 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
