1. New York Yankees

From being the ongoing presumptive favorite to land Dallas Keuchel before the Braves swooped back in to get him, to recent rumored interest in Madison Bumgarner and Marcus Stroman, the Yankees are obviously in the market for starting pitching.

Luis Severino (shoulder) is out until at least the All-Star break, and Domingo German (left hip) is now on the IL as James Paxton continues to pitch through some ongoing knee trouble. Masahiro Tanaka is pitching solidly despite his best pitch being incredibly hittable, which points to a 3.58 ERA that’s set to inflate if he can’t get it back on track, while J.A. Happ (4.48 ERA) and CC Sabathia (3.96 ERA) have been merely adequate thus far.

If New York has any chance to push past the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, they have one area to address as Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge both get closer to returning from injury.

The Yankees are certain to add a starting pitcher at some point over the next several weeks. The question is who it will be. But Syndergaard has to remain in the conversation until further notice.
