Italy entered their final group stage game against Brazil with a perfect six points, aiming to make it nine points in three games. Judging by her ridiculous save in the 17th minute, goalkeeper Laura Giuliani was doing everything in her power to help keep Italy perfect.

After following up an upset victory over Australia with an impressive 5-0 win over Jamaica, Italy have established themselves as a darkhorse team in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

They faced a tough Brazil team in their final Group C game and knew they needed to be at their best in order to hold off Marta, Debinha, Cristiane and all of Brazil’s talented attackers.

Italy’s goalkeeper Laura Giuliani was quickly put to the test against Brazil, but she more than stood up to the task of keeping Brazil off of the scoresheet.

North Carolina Courage forward Debinha has been immense in the World Cup thus far, and she’s been incredibly unlucky not to score. In the 17th minute, Debinha nearly scored the goal of the tournament, back-heeling a corner goalwards.

But Giuliani was more than equal to it, saving the powerful, clever strike at the near post with an astounding reflex save.

Debinha has been an absolute joy to watch and will surely score a goal in this year’s World Cupat some point. However, Giuliani deserves all the praise in the world for this save, and it’s hard to seeing any save topping this one.

Vanina Correa, Christiane Endler, and others have made some outstanding stops in this tournament, but it took a special blend of strength, awareness, and reflexes to parry this back-heel from Debinha.

Likewise, Debinha showed a great deal of creativity and technical ability to pull this shot off, let alone hit the target. Nine times out of ten, that’s a shot that finds the back of the net and makes highlight reels for years to come, but Giuliani wasn’t going to be denied her clean sheet.

Of course, Giuliani is an equally amazing player, as the Juventus goalkeeper is a two-time Serie A champion and one of the best in the world at the position.
