Sam Kerr is one of the world’s most prolific strikers and she got on the board for the second time in the 2019 Women’s World Cup by beating Jamaica’s keeper with a powerful header.

Although Sam Kerr didn’t score in Australia’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over Brazil, she played a critical role in the statement-making win and had the show-stealing sound bite after the game.

Kerr has been a huge factor in Australia’s march toward the knockout stages, and her penalty was Australia’s lone goal in their tough loss to Italy to star the tournament.

Australia struck first blood in their important, final group stage game against Jamaica, hammering home with a towering header from beyond the penalty spot.

There’s no doubt that Kerr is one of the best players in the world in the air, and she showed her elite technique on this goal. Kerr has now scored twice in three games in the Women’s World Cup, and she surely isn’t done.

The NWSL superstar has set countless records in the United States domestic league as a dangerous goal-scorer, and this perfectly-placed, powerful header exemplifies why she basically has as many appearances as goals at the club level.

As far as headed goals go, it’s hard to hit one any better than that. Kerr got so much strength on that lofted-in cross and tear-dropped the ball over the keeper, leaving Jamaica with no chance to deny her.

Australia entered the final Group C game tied with Brazil in the standings with three points, so Kerr’s opening goal was crucial. With a win, Australia will join Italy in the knockout stages.

Out of the six groups, four third-placed teams will also enter the knockout stages, so Australia would control their own destiny with a win, even if Brazil prevailed over Italy in the other group stage game.
