The Vanderbilt crushed Michigan in Game 3 to win the 2019 College World Series and these are the three biggest takeaways to another Vandy Boys title.

The 2019 College World Series has come to a close as the Vanderbilt Commodores have claimed their second national title. Vandy topped the Michigan Wolverines in dominant fashion, winning game three of the College World Series finals 8-2.

And with that win, the 2019 NCAA baseball season has come to a close.

There’s plenty that one could take away from this game, but there are three clear takeaways from Vanderbilt’s win over the Wolverines that stands out.

Tim Corbin is the best coach in America

First and foremost, Tim Corbin’s status as the best coach in the country needs to be addressed. After claiming his second national title in five seasons, Tim Corbin has cemented his status as the best college baseball coach in the country.

Before Corbin arrived in Nashville, the Vanderbilt Commodores were far from being the national powerhouse that they are now.

Under Corbin’s guidance, the Commodores have become a program to be feared. Corbin has taken Vanderbilt to Omaha four times, won two national titles, finished as the national runner up, won two conference tournament championships as well as four conference championships and has won nine regional championships.

It’s hard to come up with an argument about how any coach in America right now has a better, more polished resume than Tim Corbin.

This Vanderbilt team is one of the best teams of all time

Few teams are quite as dominant as this Vanderbilt team. Few teams have won more games in a single season than this Vanderbilt team.

This group of Commodores will be remembered for processing and crushing their foes with ease regularly. Tonight’s game is hardly the only time this has happened. Closing out the Nashville super regional against Duke, Vanderbilt won big.

Throughout the SEC Tournament, Vandy won big against Auburn (who also made it to Omaha) and LSU. In the Nashville regional, Vanderbilt had no issues and won without really being challenged.

But this team also showed resiliency throughout the year.

That’s something about this team that should have been recognized by yours truly a little more as the season (and postseason) wore on.

While Michigan did an admirable job of putting Vanderbilt in a tough position by winning game one of the College World Series finals, Vanderbilt responded as well as any championship caliber team could by bouncing back in game two and then absolutely dominating game three.

In the Nashville super regional, Vanderbilt needed to bounce back and win games two and three. And it’s not much of a stretch to say that series against Duke is a bit of a mirror image to this one against Michigan.

Vandy could repeat

There’s a list of reasons as to why Vanderbilt was better than Michigan this year and why that was evident as the series played out. One of the biggest reasons why Vandy was so much better is simply the talent disparity between the two teams.

Unfortunately for Vanderbilt fans, a lot of that talent won’t be back next year. Fortunately for Vanderbilt fans, plenty of this championship team will return for another possible run at Omaha.

Key players like Ethan Paul and Julian Infante will be headed out after exhausting their eligibility. JJ Bleday and Anthony Volpe were selected in the first round of the draft. Vanderbilt had three more players picked up in the second round.

It’s unlikely that those guys all return to Nashville for another run at a championship. Still, Vanderbilt is a remarkably deep team, and that’s one reason that the Commodores made such a dominant and resilient run to Omaha.

Kumar Rocker, a freshman, earned the honor of Most Outstanding Player at the College World Series. He could certainly be one of the best pitchers in the country yet again next season. Mason Hickman fanned 10 in six innings in the Game 3 start vs. Michigan and returns next year.Cooper Davis and Pat Demarco are both talented sophomores who should see a notable increase in at bats next year.

There’s plenty more talent in Nashville for Commodore fans to fawn over and opposing fans to fear. Don’t be surprised if Corbin leads Rocker, Hickman and the Vandy Boys to another national title.
