Welcome back readers of FantasyCPR, we are discussing the 7-game tiers contest advice for DraftKings MLB today. We have had some really good success playing the tiers contest, and I am diving back into today. Tiers is a great format that only focuses on the hitters and you do not have to worry about your pitcher dropping negative fantasy points and burying your lineup. Let’s dive into the slate.

June 30th: MLB DFS DraftKings Tiers Advice

Tier 1:

Christian Yelich, v. PIT (Brault)

Charlie Blackmon, v. LAD (Maeda)

Cody Bellinger, @ COL (Gonzalez)

Mike Trout, v. OAK (Bassitt)

This is a star-studded range, truth is that any one of these players is capable of posting 40-DraftKings points. The ownership is going to be with the Coors guys, I like Coors guys as well, leaning towards Charlie Blackmon as my top spend up, followed by Cody Bellinger. The match-up is simply too good for those assets. They will be the two that I am building around on today’s slate.

Mike Trout would be my pivot. Mike Trout always gets overlooked, it’s a mistake, I will definitely have more of him than the field will. Bassitt is a sinker ball pitcher and Mike Trout has had great success against opposing sinkers. Trout has a 0.447 wOBA, 0.216 ISO, with a 39.48% Hard Hit rate. Trout is an excellent pivot in the first tier for us today. I am going to completely fade Christian Yelich today, and that does make me really nervous.

Tier 2:

Franando Tatis Jr., v. STL (Mikolas)

George Springer, v. SEA (Gonzales)

Josh Bell, @ MIL (Davies)

Nolan Arenado, v. LAD (Maeda)

Max Muncy, @COL (Gonzalez)

Max Muncy is the clear chalk, and is the top play of this range. I feel so strongly about Muncy today, he will probably be my highest owned player on the slate. Chi Chi Gonzalez throws a fastball (27.78%) and Slider (42.59%) to left-handed hitters. Muncy has posted monster numbers against sliders and fastballs. Muncy against the slider has a 0.292 wOBA, 0.214 ISO with a 38.10% Hard Hit rate. Then you add in the fact that Chi Chi’s second most used pitch, the fastball, he has posted a 0.443 wOBA, 0.303 ISO and a 48.46% Hard Hit rate. We need to lock Muncy into this range and move on.

Springer is my pivot in this range, however, I am not sure how much I am going to get there because of my love for Max Muncy today. Springer is capable of hitting two home runs at any point and he is facing a soft tossing left-handed pitcher at home. I love attacking Springer in these situations. Plus, he is going to be massively under-owned and I want to be over the field on George Springer.

Tier 3:

Starlin Marte, @MIL (Davies)

David Dahl, v. LAD (Maeda)

Kevin Newman, @ MIL (Davies)

Joc Pederson, @ COL (Gonzalez)

Alex Verdugo, @ COL (Gonzalez)

Chris Taylor, @ COL (Gonzalez)

Surprise, surprise! We are going to lean towards a Coors Field bat in this tier once again. However, some of these guys are going to go overlooked. Today it’s all about Joc Pederson for me. Joc Pederson has a 0.368 wOBA, 0.336 ISO with a 48.31% Hard Hit rate against opposing sliders and then he has a 0.388 wOBA, 0.322 ISO, 44.24% Hard Hit rate against opposing fastballs. Plus, he gets to play in the best hitters park in the league. I do not think Joc will be chalk, due to the struggles he has had this series. I think Verdugo will be the highest owned in the range and I will definitely have a sprinkle of him but I will come in under-the-field on Verdugo.

Chris Taylor is my second favorite player in the range. Taylor has been fantastic at Coors Field in this series and he got the day off yesterday, which I am expecting helps him out for today’s match-up. Taylor is a pro at hitting the ball into the gaps and he has the speed to hit doubles and triples and he typically hits in an ideal RBI spot. I love Taylor and he will be my second highest owned player i this range.

Tier 4:

Ketel Marte, @SF (Bumgarner)

Mitch Garver, @ CWS (Giollto)

Mike Moustakas, v. PIT (Brault)

Alex Bregman, v. SEA (Gonzales)

Yasmani Grandal, v. PIT (Brault)

Justin Turner, @ COL (Gonzalez)

Ian Desmond, v. LAD (Maeda)

The chalk of the range is Justin Turner, however, I am vastly more interested in the outside of Coors Field in this range.

Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal are the top two plays of this range. My favorite is Mike Moustakas, followed by Grandal. Moustakas has been on a tear and Steven Brault does not scare me away from any one these two plays today although he has been better as of late. Brault throws half of his pitches as fastballs and both Grandal and Moustakas destroy fastballs and they get a favorable ballpark at Miller Park.

More from FanSided

My pivot play in this range is Alex Bregman, Marco Gonzales is pretty decent at limiting damage, but Alex Bregman is capable of putting up double dong game at simply any point. I love Bregman today and I think he is going to go massively under-looked today.

Tier 5:

Manny Machado, v. STL (Mikolas)

Shohei Ohtani, v. OAK (Bassitt)

James McCann, v. MIN (Thorpe)

Daniel Murphy, v. LAD (Maeda)

Ryan Braun, v. PIT (Brault)

Corey Dickerson, @ MIL (Davies)

Kike Hernandez, @COL (Gonzalez)

Jose Osuna, @MIL (Davies)

The chalk of the range has to be Manny Machado, and I am going to eat the chalk on Machado today. Although Mikolas has been decent against right-handed hitters this season, Machado is the hottest player in baseball and does not deserve to be placed into this tier. Machado will hit my cap for whatever I set my cap at for sure. Machado has double-digit DraftKings points in 8 of his last 10 games and in three of the 10 games he has posted more than 20 DraftKings points. Although it’s a poor hitting park, Macahado is on fire.

What I do with the remaining balance of my cap is the battle between Ryan Braun and Corey Dickerson. I am leaning towards Dickerson, might just sprinkle both of them into my lineups, however, there is not going to be much room after I max out Machado. Dickerson has hit Sinkers (56.36%) and changeups (32.80%) well and Miller Park is a dream for left-handed hitters. Dickerson has posted a 0.330 wOBA, 0.203 ISO, 27.53% Hard Hit rate against the change-up and the 0.387 wOBA, 0.222 ISO, 41.11% Hard Hit rate against sinkers.

Tier 6:

Eduardo Escobar, @ SF (Bumgarner)

Matt Olsen, @ LAA (Heaney)

Yoan Moncada, v. MIN (Thorpe)

Eric Hosmer, v. STL (Mikolas)

Jarrod Dyson, @SF (Bumgarner)

Eric Thames, v. PIT (Brault)

Greg Garcia, v. STL (Mikolas)

Raimel Tapia, v. LAD (Maeda)

Honestly, not sure who the chalk will be on in this range. For me it’s Eric Hosmer. Hosmer gets a match-up against Mikolas, and Mikolas has struggled massively against opposing left-handed hitters. Mikolas holds a 0.395 wOBA, 0.245 ISO with only a 15% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters. Hosmer has 15-plus DraftKings points in three straight games. He has also posted 2 home runs in the last three games. Lock Hosmer into your lineups!
