The baseball world is mourning on Monday night after Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs passed away suddenly.

Just days after pitching for the Los Angeles Angels, pitcher Tyler Skaggs has passed away.  The details of Skaggs’ death have not been released. He was 27 years old.

Skaggs grew up in Santa Monica, so he got to play for a local team. He just married his wife, Carli, in the offseason, and was finally finding his footing in his Major League career.

The Angels’ Monday game against the Texas Rangers was postponed. The Angels released a statement late Monday afternoon.

"It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas.Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Carli and his entire family during the devastating time."

The Rangers also released a statement:

Drafted by the Angels in Round 1 of the 2009 MLB Draft, Skaggs made 96 starts in his career with the Angels and the Arizona Diamondbacks over seven professional seasons. He was on pace to break career marks this season in games pitched, strikeouts and wins. His advanced stats showed he was getting better every year (he posted a 1.0 WAR halfway through the season). He was a player on the rise.

Expect the Angels to pay tribute to Skaggs this week. His jersey will likely hang in the Angels dugout all season. This is a tragic day for baseball, as the world lost a talented player and good person way too soon.

FanSided sends our condolences to Skaggs’ family, friends and teammates.
