With Tua Tagovailoa’s latest injury, is it worth questioning his durability as a quarterback?

The injury bug has bitten Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa once again. This time it is described as a minor hamstring injury, which shouldn’t have any long-term effects. He should be back for practices and of course the season, but the injury kept him out of the Manning Passing Academy.

While this minor injury isn’t a concern, it’s the history of injuries surrounding Tagovailoa that is beginning to make many wonder if he’s injury-prone. Tagovailoa had both knee and ankle injuries last season, one of which required surgery, that derailed his Heisman bid and Alabama’s quest for a second straight national championship.

The NFL Draft talk is already starting for 2020, and Tagovailoa is a candidate to be the first overall pick next April. He has the tools and the accuracy to play quarterback from the pocket and possesses enough arm strength to make throws all over the field. He’s going to be right in the spotlight for an Alabama team looking to go on a redemption tour and has a good shot to win the Heisman Trophy.

Durability has to be a concern though for the rising junior, however, who struggled to get through a full season in which many times he sat out in the fourth quarter of games.

From a hand injury last spring, to knee and ankle injuries in 2018, and how a hamstring injury, scouts and general managers will begin the process of scouting Tagovailoa with a big flag next to the injury part of their reports.

The good news for Tagovailoa is he has another full season at the helm of Alabama’s offense. He can remind teams how talented he is, quiet any of these concerns teams have of him, and firmly keep his place as a front-runner for the top quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.
