It might be a holiday but that Amazon Prime package is on its way. So does mail get delivered on the 4th of July? Here’s what you need to know!

These days there are lots of mail and package delivery services, so “mail” can refer to anyone who gets your package from Point A to Point B. In basic terms, mail delivery is the responsibility of the United States Postal Service, which does not deliver mail on holidays and that means no mail on the 4th of July.

The USPS motto is that they will deliver mail in all kinds of weather conditions, but when it comes to holidays the service takes a break from deliveries. That includes Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Easter, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July. They also don’t deliver on Sundays.

With the rise of e-commerce, there are more packages being delivered than ever before, and with companies like Amazon and Walmart offering free expedited shipping, the rush to get packages to their destinations is ongoing. That means that even though companies like FedEx, UPS and the Postal Service won’t be delivering on the 4th of July, Amazon’s fleet of delivery trucks might be making deliveries.

If you’re expecting a package and it could arrive near the 4th of July, check the scheduled delivery date to see when it will be delivered. It’s possible that it could arrive on the 4th if it’s an Amazon Prime package, but it’s not guaranteed because the only people delivering on holidays are doing it voluntarily.

As the demand increases, however, there’s every reason to believe that there will be new holiday mail delivery processes as e-commerce continues to rise in popularity and demand. Until the system changes, though, do not expect mail or package delivery on the 4th of July.
