MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Gas Can of the Night
Aaron Sanchez vs. Baltimore
Sanchez is officially a gas can in my book. He has gone on a few streaks over the years where has pitched well enough to make you think that he could be a decent pitcher, but we are seeing him totally fall apart this year. He’s now allowed four or more earned runs in six straight starts and has seen his ERA balloon up to 6.31 and his WHIP to 1.77, yikes!
He has all the stats we are looking for in a pitcher we want to pick on. A high walk rate, low strikeout rate, and a high hard contact rate. He’s a sinkerball pitcher who relies on ground balls for outs, but he’s just getting hit hard every time out these days and allowing way too many baserunners for a guy who can’t strike out hitters.
He used to struggle mainly against left-handers, but this season is getting hit hard by righties, too. Baltimore is not a team that many DFS players like to stack up, but I think they are an elite stack tonight. Vegas agrees as they carry a 4.8 implied run total, a full half run more than they average on the season.
