MLB DFS Pitching Gems Of The Day July 6: Mad Max In CY Young Form
MLB DFS Pitching – Main Slate Pitching Plays
Madison Bumgarner – Bumgarner is coming off two very impressive vintage style performances, and now gets whats left of this Cardinals team. In recent games, they have been playing household names such as Yario Munoz, Jose Martinez, Tyler O.Neill, and Harrison Bader. Yikes, that is an ugly group of guys. This teams K rate has been much higher recently because of it, and they have been letting pitchers such as Mike Leake look like a Cy Young candidate.
Bumgarner uses a fastball, and cutter the most with a curve as well. The most noticeable thing is that cutter has saw a massive increase in whiffs compared to last year, sitting at 40%. The GB rate is down on the fastball though. He increased the velocity on his cutter by three miles per hour, and lately has added back some of the movement on his pitches from years past. Does this mean that we will be getting a vintage Madison Bumgarner from a few years ago? No, but what it does mean is he is getting back into a form that is a good fit for him now. I expect him to see some ownership, but he might be priced up a little too much on FanDuel.
Noah Syndergaard – Thor is back in action against the same Phillies team that just got steamrolled by Jake DeGoat. It has been a rough season for Noah, but his numbers show he has been a bit unlucky as well. He will face mostly RHH, where hopefully he can show some of those previous strikeout numbers. The major question is can he limit the damage? The major issue has been putting a lot of players on the bases, this lineup is more of the home run type, not as much like Miami where they will hit nine singles on you.
Recently he increased his sinker usage, and curve, dropping his slider almost all together. It is an odd thing to do because he slider got more whiffs than any other pitch, along with solid GB numbers. The only thing I can find it the high ISO on it, but even so getting rid of it has yet to help his cause. This is more of a GPP play due to the fact that Thor hasn’t looked much like himself, and has gave up a lot of runs.
