Brazil and Peru play on Sunday, July 7 in the Copa America final at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Here’s what to know before you watch.

Host nation Brazil and surprise side Peru will tangle on Sunday with South America’s premier championship on the line at the famed Maracana Stadium in Rio.

The Copa America final will be contested for the 46th time as Brazil look to win their first South American championship since 2007.

For Peru, their championship drought extends to 1975 when they last hoisted the trophy and featured the likes of Teofilo Cubillas. At the time, Peru were among the dominant teams from the region.

Brazil and Peru met earlier in this tournament when the hosts demolished them 5-0 in Sao Paulo. Brazil reached the knockout stage as winners of Group A, while Peru qualified among the best third-place finishers.

In the knockout stage, Brazil defeated Paraguay in the quarterfinals and Argentina in the semifinals. Peru, led by Paolo Guerrero, outlasted Uruguay on penalties and downed defending champions Chile in the semifinals to continue their Cinderella run.
