5 bold predictions for Packers in 2019

The Packers will only go as far as Aaron Rodgers takes them this season, but here are five predictions about how Green Bay’s year will go. 

Aaron Rodgers isn’t getting any younger which means the entire Packers organization is under pressure to give him another chance to win a Super Bowl title. If that’s going to happen in 2019, first-year head coach Matt LaFleur will need to be terrific.

There’s a lot of reason for optimism on the offensive side of the ball. The presence of Rodgers under center virtually guarantees this will be a top-10 unit. If a receiver other than Davante Adams can step up and perform like a real weapon, it could be one of the best attacks in football.

Defensively, the Packers will rely on a healthy infusion of new faces to keep opponents out of the end zone. Preston and Za’Darius Smith were both signed in free agency to produce pressure off the edge. Drafting Darnell Savage and stealing Adrian Amos away from the Bears should improve the secondary as well. Just how much the defense improves might be the biggest determining factor in how good the Packers can be this season.

5. The Packers will trade a defensive back

The organization has openly discussed the idea of parting ways with Josh Jones before the season begins, and he could certainly be dealt. The Packers don’t feel like he’s good enough to be their starting safety but another team could easily feel differently.

Don’t be surprised if Josh Jackson’s name starts to hit the trade rumor mill as well. He’s too talented to be a backup cornerback. An offer of a second round pick might be enough to get him out of Green Bay during the preseason.
