In my opinion, I feel like an underrated research tool in fantasy football is the strength of schedule. Short for “SOS”, the strength of schedule refers to how easy certain player’s schedules are compared to other players and can be a powerful tool in your fantasy football rankings.

This tool is something you can use if you’re stuck between what player you want. For example, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are ranked similar, how do you randomly decide? Close your eyes and pick? This tool can essentially be used as a tiebreaker and is vital to redraft leagues as you prepare your fantasy football rankings. In today’s article, we are going to look at the SOS for the QB position.

We will look at where the QB’s rank in the SOS throughout the entire season. On top of that, we will break it down and even look at early season SOS, as well as the SOS for the fantasy playoffs! Throughout the remainder of the off-season, we will check out the SOS for the RB, WR, and TE position.

Note – QB strength of schedule (SOS) rankings are included next to each player with the lower the number designating an easier schedule.

QB Fantasy Football Rankings – Strength of Schedule:

Kyler Murray (1) – The 1st overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft has been gifted the easiest QB schedule in the NFL. When looking at Murray’s schedule, he doesn’t see a tough match-up until all the way in week 13 when they play the Los Angeles Rams.

That means Murray will be competing against easy opponents the first 3 months of the regular season. With an arsenal of weapons at his disposal in Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk, David Johnson, Hakeem Butler, and Andy Isabella, the sky is the limit for the dual-threat QB in what should be a high-scoring offense thanks to new Arizona Cardinals HC, Kliff Kingsbury.

Cam Newton (2)– Seeing Newton on top of this list really makes me happy considering that the fantasy community is sleeping on him. The shoulder injury has scared the consensus away but he’s expected to be a full participant when training camp opens up.

Newton has a tough match-up against the Rams and the Jaguars, and that’s about it when it comes to tough defenses for Newton and the Panthers in 2019. With the emergence of Christian Mccaffrey, D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, plus a healthy Greg Olsen, I think Newton is a near-lock to finish as a QB1 barring injury.

Newton is currently being drafted as the QB11 while he’s finished as a top-5 fantasy QB in all 5 seasons where he’s played all 16 games.

Nick Foles (3)– Not only did Jacksonville Jaguars new QB Nick Foles get a 4-year, $88 million dollar contract this off-season, but he was also rewarded the 3rd easiest SOS in 2019. When looking at the schedule, the Jaguars could be sneaky in 2019 given the relatively easy schedule.

Although it’s not the weapons he had with the Eagles, Foles has some WR’s with upside like Dede Westbrook, Keelan Cole, Marqise Lee, Dj Chark, Chris Conley, and Terrelle Pryor.

Another player worth mentioning is rookie TE Josh Oliver from San Jose State, who reportedly has a good rapport with Nick Foles. A big plus for Foles 2019 outlook is that the Jaguars OL and run-game in Leonard Fournette is far more impressive than what he had in Philly.
