There is a timeless elegance to a simple, sleek uniform that embraces continuity across time. Alabama is certainly one program that reveres the tradition of its crimson and white garb. With each player’s number emblazoned on the side of an otherwise logo-free helmet and simple white lettering on crimson jerseys, there is no unnecessary embellishment.

That leaves plenty of space for the conference and Nike logos, and whatever major kickoff classic or bowl game the Crimson Tide are competing in at the moment. While plenty of individuals have opined what an alternate Alabama uniform might look like, there is no indication that the program longs to open the floodgates to Nike innovation.

Nick Saban, the mastermind of Alabama’s recent dominance in the BCS and College Football Playoff eras, is a fierce advocate of maintaining the uniform Crimson Tide look that has been a staple in Tuscaloosa for decades. A pair of crimson stripes down the side of each leg on a pair of white pants, a simple crimson jersey, nothing but the utilitarian.

There is something comforting about being able to look at old archives of football photos and see a continuum through the decades. For traditionalists, Alabama offers one of the best two-tone looks in college football.
