5. Nick Castellanos

Nick Castellanos is an obvious trade target, as the outfielder is a free agent at the end of the season on a losing club. The Detroit Tigers will be looking for a decent return, as they could just hold him to reject the qualifying offer in the offseason for draft pick compensation. He is hitting .284 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Castellanos is a 25-30 homer threat who would hit well anywhere. The slugger has hit 20 home runs or more two seasons in a row (2017, 2018).

He would be able to slot in to the middle of the lineup. Castellanos is from Florida, so he might be interested in staying home if the Rays make an offer. The outfielder is going into his prime years, so Tampa may also be inclined to extend him. At the very least, the slugger would be a power bat in the middle of the lineup for the rest of the season. There will be several teams interested in Castellanos’ services, so the Rays may not be willing to outbid other clubs.

Tampa should trade for a hitter, but Castellanos would be a bold move that could turn out great. He is a hometown player going into his prime years, and the Rays would have a chance to have him for more than half a season. With the team in the midst of a pennant race, the clock is ticking to make a significant move. Will the Rays make this one?
