4. Shane Greene

Shane Greene is the other Tiger on this list. The Rays would like to add a reliever, and Greene should be at the top of their list. He has had a great season, pitching lights out baseball. The righty has tossed a 1.25 ERA in 36 innings pitched. Greene will be one of the most sought-after relievers this summer, but Tampa would be able to outbid other teams. If the Rays wanted any player that badly, they could present an offer teams wouldn’t be able to refuse.

This is another scenario that depends on how comfortable Tampa is with giving up talent, as the interest will be high. Greene would be a pitcher the Rays could rely on in the closer role or multiple innings of relief. His sinker is his best pitch, and he would benefit even more from pitching at the Trop. Tampa would have to give up a nice trio of players with everyday Major League potential, due to the price of relievers being high.

The Rays are a great pitching team, and padding that strength even more will only help them. Tampa has the talent to compete with any team in the Majors, and the more arms the better. The club hasn’t been lucky with the health of their players, so now is the point in the season to acquire outside talent.

Tampa can improve while others stay the same or decline. Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. The club needs to do everything they can to gain the advantage on the competition.
