16. Best college football teams of all-time: 2005 Texas

Led by the duo of head coach Mack Brown and quarterback Vince Young, this team scored 652 points in their 13 season games, while holding their opponents to a measly 213 points, including going head-to-head with several strong teams that season, including the (previously undefeated) defending champion in USC.

They beat the aforementioned USC team in one of the most thrilling college football games ever, by a score of 41-38. The Vince Young-inspired win led the Longhorns to an unbeaten season and national title.

The boys from Austin won the Big 12 Championship by a score that would go down as the largest margin of victory in the history of the contest, before capping off their season with the championship game mentioned above that won the ESPY Award as 2006’s Best Game in any sport.

They’re not only known for their title run that ended in some late-game magic, however but also set numerous school and NCAA records, including their 652 point record for most points in a season. 24 players on this team would go on to enter the National Football League and it’s not hard to see why when you look at the teams they beat, which included No.’s 1, 4, 7 and 24 on the season.
