3. Best college football teams of all-time: 2019 LSU

Like the other teams ranked this highly, there’s a case to be made for them being at the top of the list. In the case of the 2019 LSU Tigers, it’s just so recent that we don’t have the context of history and the passing of time to fully evaluate and appreciate this great team. In a few more years, we could be looking at the 2019 LSU team led by Heisman winner Joe Burrow as the greatest in the history of college football.

Burrow broke out in a big way, throwing for a record 60 touchdowns en route to winning the Heisman and practically every award he was eligible for. The Ohio State transfer blossomed into the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft and lead his team to the national championship with a dominating performance over reigning champion Clemson.

Burrow wasn’t the only star on this team as Grant Delpit won the Thorpe as the nation’s top defensive back, Ja’Marr Chase won the Biletnikoff as the nation’s top receiver, the offensive line won the Joe Moore Award as the best unit and the team tied a record with 14 NFL Draft picks. They would have set the record if not for an injury to tight end Thaddeus Moss who went undrafted despite being projected to go in Rounds 4-5.

As dominating as LSU was during the season when they beat seven teams ranked inside the Top-10, they were even better in the playoff vs. Oklahoma and Clemson. Burrow threw seven touchdowns vs. Oklahoma without breaking a sweat and then handed Clemson their first loss in two seasons.
