MLB DFS pitching gems August 1: Time to wheel and deal
MLB DFS Pitching Plays
Asher Wojciechowski – This is my favorite arm on this main slate. “Asher Roth” is fresh off of two really good performances, where he almost put up a no-hitter against Boston, striking out ten, and most recently a 3 hit, 6 strikeout game against the Angels.
Woj has some very good strikeout pitches, but when he gets hit he usually gets hit hard with the tendency to give up some home runs. Toronto has a 25% K rate to RHP, but they do not hit that many GB, at only 36%. This will end up being a high risk, high reward play, but could pay off in a huge way.
Pitch Mix – Most recently he dropped the fastball usage to 52%, increasing the slider, and introduced the cutter to his arsenal. That cutter got 46% whiffs in July, with the slider getting 40%. As mentioned above, he gets low GB numbers on all of his pitches, which can get him into trouble at times.
Overall he has pretty solid movement, and velocity and Toronto has pretty high whiffs to both the cutter, and slider, along with a low ISO, and decent GB. If he can continue to drop that fastball usage, focus on not walking batters, Woj will continue to develop and will be a great play on this main slate.
