The A-Block’s ninth night of tournament action will determine who advances to the block final. Here’s all you need to know about G1 Climax 29 Night 17 including how to watch.

Only two men are left with the possibility of winning the block. Kota Ibushi must defeat Kazuchika Okada in order to claim the block while Okada can advance by either winning or going to a time limit draw. The show is set to take place on Saturday, August 10, live from Nippon Budokan in Chiyoda, Tokyo.

All 10 A-Block participants will have their final block match including three first time ever singles matches (Will Ospreay vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Zack Sabre Jr. vs. KENTA, Lance Archer vs. EVIL). Underneath them will be four tag team matches set as previews for the B-Block’s final set of tournament matches scheduled to take place the following night.

A-Block tournament matches

EVIL (4-4) vs. Lance Archer (2-6)

SANADA (4-4) vs. Bad Luck Fale (3-5)

KENTA (4-4) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (3-5)

Hiroshi Tanahashi (4-4) vs. Will Ospreay (3-5)

Kazuchika Okada (7-1) vs. Kota Ibushi (6-2)

The only match with implications on the final is the main event but there are a couple of personal records at play. SANADA can top his best G1 record with a win over Bad Luck Fale and a loss to Will Ospreay would give Hiroshi Tanahashi his lowest point total of the decade.

The main event is one of the most protected matches of the modern era. This will be only the fourth time Kazuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi have met in a singles match. They first met in DDT back in 2013 and then six months later in NJPW. The last meeting was in 2017 when Ibushi was under the Tiger Mask W persona.

All three matches were won by Okada, who this year can advance to the final by victory or draw. Ibushi must defeat Okada in order to make the final.
