1994: Tatanka vs. Lex Luger

Up next is a two-part stop, dating all the way back to 1994. SummerSlam would be the first official event to ever be held at the brand new United Center in Chicago, and it would be remembered as having a big double main event. While Bret and Owen Hart were battling inside of a steel cage, and the late Leslie Nielson was hot on the case of the “two Undertakers” in the WWF, two other matches were putting their mark on the Windy City.

The first we’ll visit is one of the biggest summer storylines of 1994. Aside from the aforementioned Hart Family feud, there was a battle that centered around “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and two huge fan favorites. The Native American Tatanka had accused Lex Luger of selling out to DiBiase. Tatanka had caught Luger in a conversation with the millionaire manager, even witnessing DiBiase handing Luger a stack of money after a match. But Luger insisted that that was all circumstantial and he did not sell out. So Tatanka was granted a match at SummerSlam to prove his point.

What he proved was that he was the one who in fact sold out. As the match was drawing to a close, Tatanka surprised Luger with a quick rollup and picked up the victory. As fans were trying to figure out what was going on, he attacked Luger from behind and helped DiBiase lay the boots to the man known as “Made In The USA.”

Ultimately, Luger would be gone from the company a year later. Tatanka joined up with the Million Dollar Corporation, and would help wreak havoc on the WWF throughout the year. It was a quietly recognized feud, although it went on throughout the summer. By the time Survivor Series rolled around, it was rarely mentioned. But it was definitely worth a mention on the list.
