College football stadiums: Ranking the 10 best game-day experiences
By Phil Poling
Depending on who the head coach is at Alabama, Bryant-Denney Stadium is one of the most difficult places to play for visiting teams. Under current head coach Nick Saban, the Crimson Tide has posted a remarkable 77-7 record since he took over in 2007. The three previous head coaches went just 34-24 combined in Tuscaloosa, while the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant went 72-2.
Bryant-Denney, named for coach Bear Bryant and former university president Dr. George Denny, seats a whopping 101,821 guests. Are you sensing a pattern among SEC football programs yet? Liking football would be an egregious understatement.
The first game at Bryant-Denney Stadium was in September 1929 against Mississippi College, a game the Tide won 55-0. The stadium was officially dedicated a week later when Ole Miss came to town.
