Kliff Kingsbury just can’t relate to Antonio Brown’s helmet ordeal
Kliff Kingsbury was asked about Antonio Brown’s helmet situation, and his response will stand up as legend.
After losing his grievance with the league to use an outdated, uncertified version of the helmet he has always used, Antonio Brown’s helmet ordeal seems close to being over. Of course he wants to find a slightly newer version of the same model, as nothing can be easy or cut-and-dry for Brown.
The Arizona Cardinals, new head coach Kliff Kingsbury and 2019 No. 1 pick Kyler Murray will play the Oakland Raiders in a preseason game Thursday night. Brown surely won’t be playing, as he continues to recover from an issue with his feet, but he’s obviously still a league-wide topic of conversation.
Kingsbury appeared on Monday’s edition of the “Bickley and Marotta Show” on Arizona Sports’ 98.7. Naturally he was asked about Brown and more specifically the situation surrounding his helmet, which included a threat to retire if he didn’t get his way.
Here’s the question Kingsbury was asked to address, from the perspective of a former player, followed by his response that now stands as an all-time great quote.
"Q: “You’re a former player. Have you ever fallen so in love with a helmet that you’re willing to walk away from the game?”A: “I haven’t fallen in love with a woman that I’m willing to walk away from the game for."
Kingsbury is currently dating Holly Sonders of FOX Sports, and formally of Golf Channel. She may not enjoy that answer.
Kingsbury has joined the list of football minds who don’t fully grasp the drama Brown has created involving something as trivial as using a helmet that needs to fall within the NFL’s rules. But it’s safe to say no one else’s response to a question on the issue will be remembered for years to come like his.
