1. Seattle Seahawks

Rather than pony up with a big contract for him, the Seahawks traded Frank Clark to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. That might automatically push them aside as a suitor for Clowney, who is in line for his own multi-year contract toward the top of the edge rusher market.

But Seattle is counting on Ezekiel Ansah to be healthy, first-round pick L.J. Collier to develop quickly and the return of Cassius March to cover for Clark’s absence and bolster their pass rush. Ansah was limited as he recovered from shoulder surgery all offseason. But he is in line to be ready for Week 1, and a Bret Saberhagen-esque every other year thing puts the former top-five overall pick in line for a big year in 2019.

The Seahawks have $24.2 million in cap space right now. So they can absorb whatever Clowney’s franchise tag number winds up being without necessarily having to send a player to the Texans to offset the financial hit. A couple of picks should get it done, and perhaps Seattle could convince Houston to take a flier on running back  C.J. Prosise as a throw-in to the deal.
