Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: August 16th, 2019

Tonight’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks slate features 15 games, with plenty of areas to exploit. With a handful of high-priced pitchers available, finding value will be imperative for success.
We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, stolen base upside, and pricing discrepancies.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Standout Batted Ball Stats

Joc Pederson – DK $4000, FD $2800

Not only will Joc Pederson benefit from facing a righty, but he’s also available at a much cheaper price point. At $4000, Pederson is $600 cheaper than he was, just yesterday. Now given the price drop you would imagine that his batted ball stats would be down, however, he’s actually hitting the ball quite well. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 23 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 2%, and his exit velocity has remained the same, relative to his yearly averages.

C.J. Cron – DK $3700, FD $3300

While Cron’s price change isn’t as drastic, his batted ball stats have been phenomenal of late. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 16 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 12%, and his exit velocity is up 4 MPH, over his yearly averages. Minnesota will face Mike Minor, who has pitched well of late, but the Twins have still opened with a decent team total, of 4.8 runs.

Batter Splits

Mitch Moreland – DK $4500, FD $3200

Boston holds one of the highest team total on the slate, and lefty Mitch Moreland will be in a positive batter split, against the righty, Aaron Brooks. Moreland is much more effective against right handed pitching, with a .345 wOBA split (.129 better than when facing a lefty) and a .256 ISO split (.207 better than when facing a lefty).

Stolen Base Upside

Whit Merrifield – DK $4400, FD $3800

Kansas City runners will have plenty of opportunities to swipe a bag, as they’ll face the pitcher with the most stolen bases allowed, Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard has allowed 28 stolen bases (8 more than the second highest), over the course of 148 innings pitched. This will bode well for runners like Whit Merrifield. Merrifield has stolen 16 bases this season, tied for the 12th most in the majors.

Trea Turner – DK $5200, FD $3600

Trea Turner is another runner that could be at an advantage on the base paths tonight. Turner and the Nats will face the righty, Adrian Houser. Houser has allowed six stolen bases, over the course of 69.2 innings pitched. It’s not nearly as much upside as the runners get facing Thor, but this matchup should provide a bit of hidden value tonight. Turner has stolen 25 bases, with only 375 at bats.
