NFL DFS: GPP Strategy Guide

Hello NFL DFS players and welcome to my comprehensive GPP strategy guide for the 2019 NFL season. I am “Thunder Dan” and I’ll be writing a weekly “GPP Pivots” article this season here at FanSided Fantasy that focuses on Draftkings, but I also play a lot of volume on FanDuel, too. This article is going to attempt to give you some insight as to what factors you should consider when building those GPP lineups, whether it be on FanDuel or Draftkings.

In nearly every DFS sport, cash game and GPP roster construction is very different. NFL DFS is no different. If you’re doing it right, your GPP lineups should look very different than your cash game lineups and unlike MLB DFS or NBA DFS, there really isn’t a case to be made for playing one lineup in both cash and GPP contests. I would absolutely always enter my cash lineup in at least one GPP contest in case it goes nuts, but entering cash-style lineups into GPP contests is simply not going to win you GPPs very often.

In today’s DFS landscape there is an abundance of information out there to process. At some point it can become information overload and many DFS players end up relying solely on touts’ picks when building their lineups because they either don’t have the time to crunch all the data that is available or they simply don’t trust their own process when it comes to making the tough calls on who to play each week.

My goal here in this article is to help you become a better GPP player by giving you some of the most important factors to consider when attempting to determine which players to use in your GPP lineups. I will be discussing different types of players, stacking strategies, the importance of correlation, and projecting ownership – all of which I feel are vitally important topics when it comes to GPP roster construction in NFL DFS. Let’s start by taking a look at what makes a player a “GPP play” instead of a “cash play.”
