NFL Preseason Week 4: DFS Picks

Dolphins @ Saints

Miami Dolphins: In the midst of a complete rebuild mode, it was a bit surprising to see the name Jadeveon Clowney attached to the Dolphins in trade rumors this past week. The preseason finale will be Josh Rosen‘s last chance to usurp Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting role in Week 1. Head Coach Brian Flores said to expect a lot of Jake Rudock so Rosen will have limited opportunity to rip up the Saints and force the Dolphins to consider him for the starting role.

Another position of interest in Miami is the running back position. With Kenyan Drake being floated in trade rumors, it becomes very important who else lands on the depth chart behind Drake following Thursday’s game. Mark Walton and Patrick Laird will fight for the final spot behind Drake, Kalen Ballage and FB Chandler Cox.

New Orleans Saints: In a rumor that connects the two teams, Kenny Stills has been floated as a name to be moved to New Orleans to bolster their WR depth. The Saints are a strong Super Bowl contender and this game will be used to help finalize some position battles including the #2 QB role between Teddy Bridgewater and Tysom Hill as well as the continuation of the battle at WR and the depth behind Alvin Kamara with the Mark Ingram departure. I love Devine Ozigbo in DFS this week for the Saints and also wouldn’t be afraid to sprinkle in fellow RB Dwayne Washington.

Players to use in DFS: Mark Walton (RB-MIA), Teddy Bridgewater (QB-NO), Devine Ozigbo (RB-NO)

More from DFS

Cardinals @ Broncos

Arizona Cardinals: Despite the low expectations in Arizona, the Cardinals have to be happy with the situation they are putting in and finalizing for #1 pick, Kyler Murray. With new Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury, the offense looks like it will at least give opposing defenses some trouble. Chase Edmonds is becoming a nice relief back for David Johnson and with the addition of Michael Crabtree and the release of Kevin White, the receivers should be a perfect fit for Murray. Behind veteran Larry Fitzgerald and young superstar Christian Kirk, the Cardinals have built a strong core of Crabtree, Trent Sherfield, KeeSean Johnson, Andy Isabella and either Damiere Byrd or Pharoh Cooper.

Denver Broncos: With the injury to Drew Lock, the battle between Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien becomes very interesting for the Broncos as this game will likely decide the the #2 QB to start the season. Neither QB was particularly great in week 3 which should allow both to have a fair chance at winning the role. Beyond the QB position, there are two players to keep an eye on in the preseason finale. RB Khalfani Muhammad impressed in the Hall of Fame game and was decent last week against the Rams but will need a solid performance Thursday night to secure a roster spot.

The Broncos top five receivers are set in stone heading into the season with Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton, Tim Patrick and Juwann Winfree. The Broncos don’t have to add a sixth receiver but River Cracraft will be given one more shot to contradict that argument. I would hate to see one of the best names of the preseason go by the wayside…

Players to use in DFS: KeeSean Johnson (WR-ARI), Pharoh Cooper (WR-ARI), Khalfani Muhammad (RB-DEN)

Raiders @ Seahawks

Oakland Raiders: The team that enveloped America’s living room over the past month will face its final test in completing their 53-man roster by weeks end. Some fan favorites on and off the field including Keelan Doss will try to prove their worth one final time on Thursday night. Outside of the intriguing battle between NFL failed QB’s Nathan Peterman and Mike Glennon, the WR position is certainly the most interesting with both Doss and Ryan Grant vying for the final spot among 7 confirmed receivers. It appears Doss may have the role locked up, but a nice performance on Thursday could be the cherry on top.

Seattle Seahawks: Another team rumored to be among Jadeveon Clowney’s top landing spots, the Seahawks still have plenty of questions to be answered in their final preseason matchup. Much like other organizations, Seattle will need to tidy up their skill position depth including QB, RB, and WR. With the likelihood of Seattle only keeping two QBs, Geno Smith may have done enough in the past few weeks to lock up the role over Paxton Lynch who impressed in the season opener.

Behind #1 and #2 running backs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny is an interesting combination of C.J. Prosise, Travis Homer, J.D. McKissic and Bo Scarbrough. Rookie Travis Homer and J.D. McKissic seem to have the fast track to the two openings behind Carson and Penny, but Prosise should have the opportunity to change the Seahawks mind by Saturday’s cut day.

The final WR spot will go to either Jazz Ferguson, Malik Turner or Gary Jennings. Jennings, a 4th round draft pick, is the least likely to survive the waiver wire so he is the presumed front runner. However, Ferguson and Turner can create a ripple in that approach with a nice performance on Thursday.

Players to use in DFS: Nathan Peterman (QB-OAK), James Butler (RB-OAK), Keelan Doss (WR-OAK), C.J. Prosise (RB-SEA)

Chargers @ 49ers

Los Angeles Chargers: Similar to the Cowboys, the Chargers are dealing with their superstar running back in a holdout but continue to look ready to go heading into the regular season. The battle behind Philip Rivers has been interesting between Cardale Jones and Easton Stick. Stick has been very impressive but it is Jones who will garner the start on Thursday (followed by Stick). At RB, unless Detrez Newsome goes nuclear in week 4, all signs are pointing to Troymaine Pope earning the final roster spot in the RB room.

With the reunion of Dontrelle Inman and the Chargers in place, the WR competition has thinned out. Andre Patton appears to be the odd man out behind Inman and Artavis Scott who has impressed the Chargers this preseason.

San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers are potentially in the same position as the New England Patriots for the preseason finale. Nick Mullens appears to have won the backup role behind Jimmy Garappolo which lays the groundwork for Thursday being the potential ‘trade bait’ game for CJ Beathard who could be a suitable addition for a number of teams. Not to sound like a broken record but the 49ers also face some tough decisions at RB and WR.

With Jerick McKinnon, unfortunately, facing a setback in his recovery, the door opens slightly for RBs Jeff Wilson Jr. and Austin Walter to make the roster in his absence. Both will be on display on Thursday night for one last look.

At receiver, there are four players locked into the roster (Marquis Goodwin, Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor and Jalen Hurd) and Deebo Samuel is a heavy favorite to also join that cast. Behind those five, Kendrick Bourne, Richie James Jr., Malik Henry, Chris Thompson and Nick Williams will fight for the last spot for the receivers.

Players to use in DFS: Cardale Jones (QB-LAC), Artavis Scott (WR-LAC), Jeff Wilson Jr (RB-SF), Richie James Jr. (WR-SF)
