NXT UK recap, August 28: The not ready for Cardiff Players

As this is the episode right before a TakeOver, when there aren’t wrestlers wrestling, there’s wrestlers appearing in hype packages. They pretty much cover what you would expect. Kay Lee Ray and Toni Storm used to be best friends, but now they’re enemies! WALTER is big and terrifying, but hey now, that Tyler Bate guy is pretty strong for a smaller wrestler wearing sandals! Neither the Joe Coffey/Dave Mastiff Last Man Standing match nor the Noam Dar/Travis Banks Normal match get hype videos, but they are certainly matches that are also happening.

Getting the most shine and closing out this episode is the triple threat for the tag titles between Grizzled Young Veterans, Gallus and the hometown heroes of Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster. GYV’s music hits and they come storming out of the back, Zack Gibson shouting “IS THIS A JOKE IS THIS A RIB” repeatedly. You can tell they’re especially angry because Gibson isn’t wearing a jacket and Drake is both sans jacket and tie. Also, Gibson cuts his own music off, the telltale sign of seething rage.

Gibson is furious that Andrews and Webster earned a spot in a tag team match by winning singles matches. That just doesn’t make sense. Gallus starts to come down to their music, but that doesn’t stop Gibson from going off, shouting insults over it. Then Mark Andrews’ music hits but Gibson still keeps on going. He’s an easy target to roast, but man does Zack Gibson deliver on the mic. Honestly one of the top heels in the company.

Anyway, Gibson yells in the faces of Andrews and Webster that they are jokes, and a brawl is sparked. Chaos encompasses the ring as the show goes off the air. If you thought that was something, what is going to happen when they get their hands on each other this Saturday with the titles on the line, Nigel?!
