If you’re looking for entertaining college football games, there’s plenty going on this weekend. Here are a few that are flying under the radar, but still deserve attention.

Look, there’s plenty oh high-profile college football action happening this weekend. Texas vs. LSU and A&M vs. Clemson are the two games that most college football fans will keep up with due to the rankings of the teams involved. There’s a multitude of stars sitting in these two games, ready to shine with a national spotlight.

But there’s so much more football to watch this weekend!

Look beyond the big-name teams and the dominant programs right now and you’ll find plenty of entertaining college football games to watch. Some of these games will be good because the teams involved in them are, actually, good.

Some of these games will be hilariously entertaining because the teams involved are bad, but that’s still a reason to watch. Especially if you’re looking to fill up your weekend with as much football as possible.

Honorable mentions:

  • BYU vs. Tennessee– Oh boy is this game built for sadness. The Vols lost to Georgia State to start the 2019 season and the Cougars were crushed by Utah. These teams could very well provide an evenly matched game that is enjoyable for anyone not directly affiliated with either school.
  • Arkansas vs. Ole Miss– Like the aforementioned BYU vs. Tennessee, this game is going to be a train wreck. And that’s okay! Just don’t stand close to the tracks and you’ll be fine. Ole Miss, a school known for offense, had no offense against Memphis last week. Arkansas, a football program known for, well, existing in chaos, is hoping to upset the Rebels. This game has provided plenty of weird results over the years. It could do that again this year.

No. 5: Wyoming vs. Texas State

The Wyoming Cowboys, on paper, probably shouldn’t struggle with the Texas State Bobcats. Texas State has shown very little to convince anyone that this game will be competitive due to any reason that the Bobcats could produce. The only way this is competitive is if Wyoming is high off its success against Mizzou and comes crashing down to reality as it gets tripped up in a trap game on the road.

No. 4: Syracuse vs. Maryland

The Syracuse Orange won their season opener thanks to a stout defense and just enough offense. Meanwhile, Maryland disemboweled Howard’s defense and scored points by the dozens to start 2019. Syracuse (currently the ACC’s second-best team) probably can’t win a shootout this season, even against what is currently the Big Ten’s ninth-best team, but there’s no guarantee that this game is a shootout. Maryland hasn’t faced a decent defense yet, and Syracuse can provide that. Keep an eye on the Orange as they attempt to slow down Maryland’s quarterback, Josh Jackson.

No. 3: North Texas vs. SMU

Last week, SMU outscored Arkansas State en route to a season-opening win. North Texas was involved in a test of offensive firepower as well as the Mean Green were tested by Abilene Christian. This week, SMU and North Texas will combine for an explosive, high scoring match up that will provide plenty of entertainment to those that love offense.

No. 2: Minnesota vs. Fresno State

There’s no guarantee that Minnesota and Fresno State will put a quality product out on the field, but there is a guarantee that the product they do place on the field will be interesting. And that’s enough for me to endorse it. Minnesota, likely looking ahead to this road trip, almost fell to South Dakota State to start the season. Fresno State, on the other hand, went toe-to-toe with USC. Fresno State will have to get back up for this contest and Minnesota can’t sleep through this game like they did in last week’s game.

No. 1: Arkansas State vs. UNLV

Arkansas State needs redemption. UNLV is looking to remain undefeated. Both teams can score a ton of points when their offenses are clicking. This game should be a great opportunity for both offenses to shine. This game should be a fun one to watch as the Red Wolves need a win if they hope to make this season one to be proud of, so they’ll be playing with plenty of determination. However, winning on the road won’t be easy, and UNLV has likely looked through film for everything that worked for SMU against Arkansas State last week.
