Trevor Lawrence and Clemson play host to the Texas A&M Saturday in a matchup of top-15 teams after narrowly beating the Aggies last season. Can Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies get the upset on the road?

A quick glance at this week’s college football schedule shows that this week’s matchup between the No. 1 Clemson Tigers and the No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies will reveal that the top-15 match up signals, alongside the LSU-Texas game, the start of college football games of fully national intrigue. This Aggies side came within a field goal of an upset over the eventual national champions Clemson last year in College Station.

Now Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and his Tigers side must return the favor of playing host, taking on a still-threatening Aggies side that features a passing defense coming off of a stellar performance last week against Texas State, and an offense led by quarterback Kellen Mond that stomped all over Texas State.

Though the Aggies defense returned just four starters coming into this season, they quickly rose to the occasion on defense last week. They’ll be hoping to exceed expectations once again against one of the most talented offenses in college football, which features a lethal offensive line, and potential future NFL stars all across the board.

Clemson’s team of stars is, no doubt, headlined by Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne. Though on the defensive side of the ball the Tigers lost a multitude of players from last year’s team, they didn’t seem to miss too many beats against Georgia State last week. They’ll have to do that and MORE against a talented Aggies offensive line, as pressuring quarterback Kellen Mond should be their first and top priority.

The spread leans towards the Tigers’ by more than two touchdowns, but this game could prove a more contested match up than most would think if the Aggies can step up and contain Lawrence and the Tigers offense—a tough task, but perhaps manageable?

Prediction

I don’t think that this game is going to be as close as last year’s matchup between the Tigers and the Aggies. Last year, Texas A&M had the home-field advantage in this clash, but no more— the Aggies have entered Death Valley.

That being said, I don’t see this game being a blow-out, so in my experience, I’m betting Clemson doesn’t win by as much as they’re favored by. I’m also taking the under in terms of total points, as two solid defenses go to work.

Clemson now has another week of experience under their belts, and are looking to make their first statement win of the season over the Aggies, and I think Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers bounce back from a relatively-mediocre showing last week and taking down the Aggies.

Score: Clemson 35, Texas A&M 24
