Miami football hopes to bounce back as they start ACC play on Saturday night against North Carolina on the road against a feisty Tar Heels team.

It was Miami football that helped kick off the 2019 season in Week 0 and they took part in one of the strangest, ugliest games that we’ll probably see all year long. The Hurricanes eventually lost a turnover-fest in that game and, after a week off, now travel north to Chapel Hill for a matchup with the 1-0 North Carolina Tar Heels.

For Miami in their season-opener, quarterback Jarren Williams left a lot to be desired as he was a bit all over the place with his performance. Running back DeeJay Dallas, however, enjoyed a breakout game that put the college football world on notice. And even better, the defense was strong for most of the game, particularly in forcing turnovers.

Manny Diaz’s team needs to keep hold of the ball in their own right, though. That particularly applies to this game against North Carolina. While the Tar Heels may not have the talent of some teams, new (old) head coach Mack Brown is a great defensive mind with some interesting chess pieces to move on the board.

In Week 1, UNC was able to take on South Carolina on a neutral field and grind out a win against a team that most would agree is better than they are. Now, freshman quarterback Sam Howell and the Tar Heels look to build off that. If they can protect home field against The U, they could put the ACC on notice.

The Hurricanes being favorites on the road after their sloppy showing in Week 0 is interesting, especially since the Heels were gritty and tough in their season-opening win. I’m going with the talent here and taking Miami football with the moneyline and against the spread. The Over/Under is likely a stay-away but, if forced to make a pick, give me the under.

Next. College football Week 2: 5 teams on upset alert. dark

Prediction: With two weeks to recover from one of the sloppiest college football games you’ll see this season, the hope is that Miami is ready for an in-conference opponent. Last week was great for UNC but it’s hard to see them ultimately coming through against a superior foe for the second-straight game, even if they keep it close enough at home.

Score: Miami 24, North Carolina 16
