Grant Delpit and the No. 6 LSU Tigers travel to Texas Memorial Stadium for a match up with Sam Ehlinger and the No. 9 Texas Longhorns that has Game of the Year written all over it.

College football doesn’t get much better than early season top-10 matchups. This game between LSU and Texas gained even more weight at the end of last season when Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger boldly declared Texas to be back.

In this game, we find out if that’s true or not.

LSU’s offense looked refreshingly alive during their beat-down win over the Eagles on Saturday, with quarterback Joe Burrow throwing for 278 yards and five touchdowns, while still allowing offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger to not show his whole playbook. The LSU running back stable of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chris Curry and freshman star John Emery Jr. also looked solid in limited carries.

While LSU’s new spread offense may have been the talk of the town coming out of last week’s game, the players charged with slowing down that offense are far from slouches themselves. The Longhorns may have lost nine starters, but return some star talent at the safety position in 2018 Freshman All-American Caden Sterns and his partner in the secondary, senior Brandon Jones. There’s also experience returning on the defensive line.

There are studs lining up on the other side of the ball for both sides. Big-time defensive talents like Grant Delpit and Kristian Fulton will line up for LSU against the aforementioned Ehlinger, along with offensive talents like running back Keaontay Ingram and lengthy receiver Collin Johnson.

Though there are certainly questions about both teams, we could get the answer to a lot of them in this matchup on Saturday, which without a doubt comes with playoff race real estate on the line.

Prediction: No one likes a good old fashioned college football shoot-out more than myself, but for this one, I just don’t see it happening. A lot of analysts see this game as being a scoring contest, but if the Texas defense is a revolving door, LSU has a good chance to run away with the game thanks to a stellar defensive unit.

That’s why I’m thinking Texas steps up and makes this a defensive game against the Tigers. I think LSU wins this game by just a field goal. I’m taking the under, and betting against the spread.

Score: LSU 24, Texas 21
