After a short couple of weeks without PGA Tour golf, let the 2019-2020 FedEx Cup season begin! Welcome to FanSided Fantasy’s PGA power rankings for this week’s A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier, taking place at the Old White TPC in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.

This PGA power rankings article will cover the top 15 golfers for this week’s event, and each golfer will come along with a short blurb with some justification to their respective rankings. Before we do that let’s touch briefly on the history of this event, and talk a little bit about the course.

PGA power rankings: A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier – Course and History

PGA is back in what seemed like an awfully long two weeks for a golf writer. The fall swing kicks off Thursday morning September 12th in West Virginia with the Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, and I am thrilled to continue my PGA power rankings here at FanSided Fantasy for the 2019-2020 FedEx Cup season. That’s right, although we will likely not see many of the big names in golf in action until December, FedEx Cup points are already on the line for the 2020 PGA Tour season, and it all begins this week.

This event formerly known as The Greenbrier Classic was added to the tour in 2010 as a replacement for the Buick Open, which ran as a PGA Tour event from 1958-2009. The Old White TPC at The Greenbrier is host, and while the course itself dates back to 1914, it was restored in 2006, and then went through some changes again in 2012 in an effort to make it a bit more challenging.

The Old White TPC is mostly flat, with medium width fairways and bentgrass greens. There are only two par-fives, both of which on the back-nine, therefore it plays at par 70 and close to 7,300 yards. It is not necessarily a tough course, as we saw last year’s winner Kevin Na dominate with his five-stroke win as he finished 19-under par.

Other past champions here at the Military Tribute at The Greenbrier include Xander Schauffele and Patrick Reed, who will not be in action this week. Past winners here who will be in action this week include 2015 champion Danny Lee, and 48-year-old 2010 winner Stuart Appleby, who finished 22-under par nine years ago.

This year, Bryson DeChambeau will return to make his second appearance at The Greenbrier after he T-14 in his debut in 2017. He highlights the field, joined by much-hyped rookie Viktor Hovland, and second-year grinders Sungjae Im and Joaquin Niemann.

I personally love these fields where most of these guys are trying to make their mark on the tour. If you love golf, the fall swing has some of the most gorgeous venues on tour in the Far East and here in the states. Not quite must-see TV I suppose considering the strength of the fields, but still worth a look! With that said, let’s start the new season with this week’s PGA power rankings for the 2019 A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
