PGA value plays and sleepers: The 2019 Greenbrier

So you’ve got your studs picked out in your lineups and now you’re looking for a little salary relief to make it work. You’ve come to the right place with our PGA Value Plays! If you’ve read my previous course breakdown article I speak of adhering to certain statistics that relate golfer to course set up. We are going to apply this same theory with our lower-priced picks from both DraftKings and Fanduel.

Now there is always a considerable risk with playing guys who are priced so low. They are given this tier for a reason and usually, it’s due to their recent forms. We can take an educated chance on a golfer who perhaps has exhibited signs of improvement in certain aspects, as well as follow the news around the Tour’s musings and hopefully strike gold. We did this very successfully last year with the emergence of PGA Tour winners Matthew Wolff, Colin Morikawa and of course Viktor Hovland who has now earned himself top-tier status in the fantasy world.  My strategy here is always to take the last 12 to 24 rounds and compile them to see if there’s a considerable trend in the right direction in certain stats that might pique interest.

We have several new Korn Ferry Tour graduates in the field with the season turning over, as well as a few Monday Qualifiers that have squeezed in. If you’re not familiar with PGA, Monday qualifiers are a last resort effort for many who compete at a neighboring course in hopes to get into the field for the main event- usually it’s 4 Golfers that advance out of a field of around 70 that went through previous qualifications to get the Monday Q. (Anyone that tells you that professional golfers “have it made” is stretching the truth a bit- these guys have earned their spots and fought hard for many years of dedication leaving careers and families behind for a shot at the Tour, it’s a grind). Alright, let’s dive in!
