WWE Clash of Champions 2019: SmackDown Women’s Championship match preview
Charlotte Flair is looking to become a 10-time women’s champion when she faces SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at Clash of Champions. But will Bayley’s BFF Sasha Banks be lurking?
As Clash of Champions heads to “Flair Country” in Charlotte, NC, their hometown girl Charlotte Flair has her eyes set on capturing the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Standing in her way is someone who knows Flair very well. As members of the famed Four Horsewomen of the WWE, Bayley and Charlotte are in-tune with each other’s strengths and weaknesses. During their time in NXT they had a handful of matches against each other with Flair often coming out on top.

When the other Horsewomen of Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch moved up to the main roster Bayley was left to hold down the fort as the NXT Women’s Champion. As champion, she learned what she needed to bring to the ring in order to remain on top. It’s taken a while but now that aggressive nature of Bayley has surfaced on the main roster as well leading to her first SmackDown Women’s Championship which she took from Flair at Money in the Bank.
That wasn’t the first time Flair lost a championship to Bayley. After debuting on the main roster it didn’t take long before Bayley defeated Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship with a little help from her BFF, Banks. Now Banks has returned after a lengthy hiatus with her own change in attitude and Bayley has opted to stand by her friend’s side no matter what.
The former Women’s Tag Team Champions laid waste to their respective Clash of Champions opponents on consecutive nights. Boss n’ Hug Connection waffled Lynch and Flair with chairs — all that was missing was a “conchairto” shot a la Edge and Christian.
But Flair rallied back and took the win during a tag team match a week later where she and Lynch faced Banks and Bayley on Raw. Flair picked up the win over Bayley sending a message that the self-proclaimed Queen of the WWE wasn’t down just yet.
This match has the makings to be a classic with both women bringing their A-games and ready for a war. Clash of Champions is Sunday, September 15, streaming live on the WWE Network.
