Matchday 5 of the Premier League is almost upon us and there are some great fixtures to look forward to. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.

The Premier League is back after an international break which seemed to take an eternity to pass. Thankfully we club soccer will be on our screens again this weekend and where better to kick it off than at Anfield with Liverpool hosting Newcastle?

Saturday is stacked full of some brilliant matches with Leicester and Crystal Palace looking for big away wins at Manchester United and Tottenham respectively. Wolves welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to Molineux whilst Norwich have the incredibly difficult task of trying to stop Manchester City. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.

5. Newcastle hold Liverpool to draw at Anfield.

Liverpool are the only side remaining in the Premier League with a 100% record with Manchester City already having dropped points against Spurs. As we saw in last season’s title race, every point is crucial so the Reds will need to make sure they don’t let Newcastle leave with anything this weekend.

Newcastle have had a good start to their season considering their fans were up in arms about the departure of Rafa Benitez and the appointment of Steve Bruce as his replacement. This did seem like a backward step for the club but so far so good for Bruce’s side. They were poor away at Norwich but apart from that, the Magpies have been fairly solid, narrowly losing to Arsenal, beating Tottenham and drawing with Watford.

Benitez imposed a defensive/counter-attacking playing style upon this team and that seems to have remained in place since Steve Bruce has taken over. It is also perfect for matches like this in which the Magpies will see very little of the ball and will have to take any chances they get.

Liverpool are becoming more clinical and that’s what you need to be when facing well organized defensive teams that are only really playing for a point. Beating your closest rivals is important but winning the gritty games likes these are almost more crucial.

In their last game, away at Burnley, the Jurgen Klopp’s side showed that tenacity to overcome a Burnley side who are renowned for keeping good teams out. That should fill the Liverpool players with confidence in moments where they’re struggling to find the back of the net – they know that more often than not the goal will come.

Newcastle or Steve Bruce won’t be judged on results against the big sides but good results against them bring more positive fan support. Liverpool will do all that they can to win this match but the Magpies will stop them from scoring and this match will finish 0-0.
