WWE Clash of Champions 2019: Preview and predictions
By Luke Norris
Previews and predictions for every match on the card from the 2019 edition of WWE Clash of Champions from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.
After a year away, WWE Clash of Champions returns to the pay-per-view calendar this Sunday on the WWE Network for most of us and from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina for those in attendance.
As per the rules of Clash of Champions, every single title in WWE must be defended so we’re in for a busy night. That’s two men’s world titles, two women’s world titles, three sets of tag titles, the United States Championship, the Intercontinental Championship and the Cruiserweight Championship for a total of 10 title bouts. Yes, there are 10 titles in WWE, which is just way too many but that’s a brand split for you. And that’s not even counting the Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan grudge match, which is where we’ll start our preview.
Actually, before we do that, let’s get to one thing that’s bothered me for a while. So this pay-per-view is called Clash of Champions, right? So, in my mind, this, not Survivor Series, should be the event in which the champions from the respective brands battle each other. Yes, this format made more sense when the event was called Night of Champions. Every champion defends a title and it’s great. But Clash of Champions should be what Survivor Series has turned into recently. But I digress. Let’s move on to the preview and predictions for the 2019 edition of Clash of Champions.
Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan (No Disqualification Match)
A lot of people were expecting Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan instead but with all the title matches on the card, it didn’t make much sense to put a high-profile match like that in here only to watch it get buried. So we get the longer build to Bryan being the mastermind behind these attacks on Roman and Erick (hey, he got his first name back) Rowan gets to be the center of attention for a while.
Watching him take out two of the biggest names on the roster a couple of weeks back was great, even if that’s likely the highlight for him during this storyline. We got a little preview at The Garden this past Tuesday on how physical things could get.
Prediction: We know that Bryan is going to get involved somewhere, especially now with the No Disqualification stipulation, and that’s where we start our lead-in to what should be Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan at Hell in a Cell. Reigns is going to get the win here but might catch a beating after the match.
