Rizzla breaks down and discusses the rationale behind his NFL Yahoo Cup Round 2 DFS lineup.

As always looking back to reflect and learn from our previous week’s lineup is key to our continuous learning experience. What we ascertained from a macro level in week one is that high totals do not guarantee fantasy production. Rather they are helpful tools that can help point us to matchups to target in both DFS and redraft. As for the week one plays themselves there were both some hits, some disappointments and a downright miss.

In the hit category we have Lamar Jackson who exploded for a 324-5 and 3-6 line. The six rushing yards were just as unexpected as the five passing touchdown outburst. Mark Ingram proved that he has still got it and went off for a 14-107-2 rushing line. Minnesota Vikings top running back Dalvin Cook made good on a plus matchup in which the Vikings were favored in for a 21-111-2 rushing line and a 2-9-0 receiving mark.

Speaking of marks, Mark Andrews hauled in all eight of his targets for a 8-108-1 week one line. He split snaps more than one would like but saw the most pass routes run at his position and has a clear rapport with Lamar Jackson. Le’Veon Bell looked like he never missed an entire year of football and saw a 17-60 rushing line despite playing for a poor Jets team and added to his fantasy total by hauling in six of his nine targets for 32 yards and touchdown. Bell also added a two point conversion reception.

In the not good enough category we had Julio Jones who mercifully found the end zone but hauled in just six of his 11 targets for 31 receiving yards. Julian Edelman also hauled in six of 11 targets but took them for 83 receiving yards. The former college quarterback would add to his fantasy output with a 32 yard pass and eight rushing yards. Finally, Chris Godwin who broke out in week two saw a pedestrian three receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in week one.  The major blunder in our week one lineup was believing in the new look Cleveland Browns defense. They managed to rack up four sacks, but gave up 35 points in a massively disappointing loss to the underrated Tennessee Titans.

For this week’s NFL Yahoo Cup free roll I followed my usual strategy of filling defense, tight end and quarterback first by identifying the best potential values and then doing the same for both running back and receiver.
