With the first UCL DFS slate in the books, Match-day 1 for the second half of the groups takes place on Wednesday.  Keep reading this UCL DFS Breakdown to see my thoughts on the slate.

Instead of writing my normal UCL DFS Breakdown where I have an analysis of the entire slate, I’m going to try something different this season called “Smart Six.”  In this format, I’ll be writing up six players (4 FWD/MID, 2 DEF) who I think could be difference-makers on the slate.

For example, instead of taking time to write up a team like Manchester City or Bayern Munich in an obvious chalk situation, I’ll focus on players that might go overlooked.  For the most part, I’ll be using this format on slate’s where I am short on time, but still want to provide some content so you can still expect to see my full slate analyses often.

We have one massive favorite on Tuesday in Bayern Munich (-3.0) at home against Red Star Belgrade with a goal total of 4.0 (highest on the slate).  This is the kind of game I won’t focus on writing up players because people will already know to target Bayern attackers in this match-up.

Manchester City (-1.5) and Bayern Leverkusen (-1.5) follow as the other two significant favorites on the slate.  City is traveling to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk which is never an easy match-up, and Leverkusen hosts Moscow at home.  The over/under is 3.0 in the MCI @ SHK which is a touch higher than the 2.5 goal total in the Leverkusen game.

There are two massive match-ups on Wednesday.  Juventus (0.0) plays at Atletico Madrid in a match-up of great defensive squads.  Players from this game will be higher owned just due to fan popularity, but with a goal total of only 2.0, this could be a place to limit your exposure.

In another match-up of giants, PSG (-0.5) hosts Real Madrid.  This game has an over/under of a full goal higher at 3.0 so I’m a little more interested from a fantasy perspective.

The last game on the slate is Atalanta (-0.5) playing in their first ever UCL group stage game against Dinamo Zagreb.  The goal total is 2.5, and there could be some very low owned players in this game with two unfamiliar teams.
