Fantasy football 2019 week 3 defense streaming picks
By Bill Pivetz
There are a couple of defenses with streaming value for fantasy football owners this week with some backups under center and other good matchups.
After two weeks of football, the elite defenses stand out and the rest are just there. This makes it hard for fantasy football owners to have consistent scoring week to week. This leads to defenses being added and dropped each week. It’s not an ideal strategy to be used early in the season but it can be effective.
The streaming strategy is one used in fantasy baseball a lot, especially towards the end of the season, but it can be used in fantasy football. It works on positions that have shallow depth on the waiver wire, like tight end, quarterback and defense.
If you look ahead at the schedule, you could end up with a pretty solid defense for a few weeks. But, if you’re just looking for a one-week wonder until your main defense comes back strong in Week 4, there are plenty of options available to you.

All three defenses are available in at least 60 percent of ESPN leagues. If they have good performances this week, their ownership will likely increase after the next waiver period.
49ers vs. PIT
The 49ers defense followed up their great Week 1 against Tampa Bay with a solid performance against Cincinnati. Now, they get a banged-up Steelers team this week.
While James Conner looks to be ready for this game, they will be going into this with Mason Rudolph under center. When he entered the game, JuJu Smith-Schuster was barely targeted. However, Vance McDonald scored two touchdowns.
The 49ers defense has seven sacks and five forced turnovers already. With an inexperienced quarterback, they will likely add to their totals.
ARI vs. CAR
The Cardinals also get to face a team with a hurt quarterback. Cam Newton is dealing with a foot injury and is questionable for Sunday’s game. If he does miss the game, the Panthers will roll with Kyle Allen at quarterback.
The Panthers do have a few weapons that can bail Allen out. The first is running back Christian McCaffrey. He will have a big impact in the passing game as a check-down option. They also have DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel and Greg Olsen.
The Cardinals have allowed at least 23 points in their first two games but have five sacks and two fumble recoveries so far.
ATL @ IND
After a bad Week 1, the Falcons defense stepped up in Week 2 against the Eagles. While allowing 20 points, they recorded two interceptions, a fumble recovery and three sacks. The defense will continue to roll in Week 3 against Indianapolis.
Jacoby Brissett has two fumbles, one lost. He does have a good set of weapons in T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle. Though, outside of that, the receiving corps is a bit weak.
You could likely find better options on the waiver wire but if you’re in a deep league or looking for a contrarian DFS play, then the Falcons are a good play.
Defenses are very hit or miss in fantasy football. With it still being fairly early in the season, offenses are still trying to work out the kinks, even more so if they suffered a big injury. Taking advantage of that could lead to a big scoring performance in Week 3. Thanks for stopping by FanSided Fantasy!
