Florida State football fans have seen enough of Willie Taggart and aren’t bothering to go to games as long as he’s on the sidelines.

Things have been so bad for Florida State football since Willie Taggart took over as head coach two seasons ago that four-year-old boy was selling lemonade with the hopes of raising money to buy him out.

Seminoles fans may appreciate the effort but it’ll take more than a lemonade stand to get Taggart out.

If FSU fans want to make a statement that they won’t support this program as long as Taggart is the leader, they should stop going to games. That’s the quickest way to get the attention of the administration that this isn’t acceptable and we’re not going to stand for it.

Ahead of their Week 4 game with Louisville, it looks painfully obvious that FSU fans are sick and tired of this regime and aren’t going to sacrifice their time and money to sit in Doak Campbell and watch another listless effort.

That’s what makes this picture of an empty Doak Campbell Stadium minutes ahead of kickoff look so bad for Florida State. But it’s exactly what is needed by FSU fans for a change to happen.

By now, most FSU fans can tell you all the details about Taggart’s buyout and the $17 million owed to him if he’s fired this season. But that may be a bargain to get him out now rather than continue to see this once-proud program fall to the levels of an also-ran ACC team. Look at what happened to Tennessee when they stuck with bad coaches year after year. Now they’re the laughingstock of the SEC.

If Florida State doesn’t act, they’ll be the laughingstock of the ACC, which is the weakest of the Power 5 conferences, despite having Clemson as the nation’s top team.

I know Florida State football fans will still be watching on TV, even if they aren’t willing to make the drive and the sacrifice in their checkbooks to attend in person. This is a tough time, but it will get better the moment they make the decision to part ways with Taggart.

It can’t get much worse, right?

But when the administration shows they aren’t serious about winning, the fans have to take a stand and make a statement. It hurts to see the stadium practically empty, but this is what needs to happen to get the attention of the powerful decision-makers in Tallahassee.
