The Oklahoma State Cowboys hope to make a huge Big 12 statement on Saturday as they travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns.

Hopes of a perfect season for the Texas Longhorns were dashed earlier in the regular season when they were toppled by LSU at home. However, they’re looking to avoid anymore tough losses moving forward, particularly in the Big 12. That makes a Week 4 date with the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Austin all the more intriguing.

Sam Ehlinger and Texas are undeniably impressive offensively. From Collin Johnson to Devin Duvernay to Keontay Ingram, the playmakers are everywhere. However, against LSU, the Longhorns defense led by Caden Sterns and Brandon Johnson didn’t look all that impressive — which is more than a little concerning as we enter conference play and this matchup in particular.

Mike Gundy’s Oklahoma State team comes into this matchup unbeaten at 3-0. They certainly haven’t played a team the caliber of the Longhorns yet. However, running back Chuba Hubbard has been cutting through defenses like a hot knife through butter and freshman Spencer Sanders has performed solidly at quarterback, aided by star wideout Tylan Wallace.

The way things are taking shape, this could be a shootout on Saturday night in Austin. And when you get a shootout, two things are true: Anything can happen and everyone watching can’t take their eyes away from the action.

Despite some of the vaunted pieces on the Longhorns defense, I’m not confident in their ability to stop a high-octane offense, which the Cowboys bring to the table. As such, this is going to be a narrowly decided shootout. Take Oklahoma State +7 against the spread but Texas on the moneyline. And without question, take the Over and never look back.

Prediction: This game is going to be a thriller, a back-and-forth affair where I’m not sure if either defense is capable of stopping the opposing offense. Ehlinger and the Longhorns clearly have more experience which should propel them to a win. However, Gundy’s Cowboys will make them sweat it out and deliver an early-season instant classic.

Score: Oklahoma State 40, Texas 45
