Awesome Kong is a veteran wrestler and one of the stars of Netflix’s GLOW.

Awesome Kong. Amazing Kong. Kharma. One woman has competed under each of these names and she made a lasting impression with each one.

Kong spent time in the Joshi puroresu scene wrestling for companies like All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling, Gaea Japan and Shine. She also wrestled in Shimmer, TNA, Ring of Honor and WWE. While in TNA (now IMPACT), she held the Knockouts Championship twice. In her career, she has also held the NWA World Women’s Championship, WWWA World Single Championship and the AWA Superstars of Wrestling World Women’s Championship.

Some may also recognize her as Tammé “The Welfare Queen” Dawson on Netflix’s GLOW. Her long, successful career helped make her a natural and fan favorite.

Since joining AEW, Kong has been an enforcer for Brandi Rhodes. You might even say she’s been a mentor, too. Kong has helped Rhodes against some of her opponents. She also had a memorable staring contest with the legend Aja Kong at Fight for the Fallen. The two wrestled each other 15 years ago with Aja coming out victorious.

Kong has said she signed with AEW because,

"“I love new things and I love when people take chances, especially because people took a chance on me at the beginning of my career where there were certain people that didn’t think [I] had the look to be successful in professional wrestling. I would never amount to anything in professional wrestling. So I was the kind of person that went against the grain so to speak. And I love it when people dare to do great things, and everyone at AEW is daring to do great things and I want to be a part of that. I want to be a part of that at the beginning. I don’t want to jump on the wagon afterward.”"

She also says she wants to help the next generation of wrestlers, both women and men. At Starrcast, Brandi announced that Kong had been hired as a female coach as well. After 15 years, she has nothing left to prove and can share her knowledge with a whole new generation. Kong is a huge asset to AEW.
